About the Artwork & Artist
Beginning in the 1960s, Peter Max became an international pop culture icon renowned for his vibrant paintings, graphic works, and expressive liner sketches. Unlike mass-produced posters, this piece is an authentic original drawing executed in fluid ink lines, showcasing the artist’s spontaneous hand and graphic mastery. The drawing features a dedicated inscription reading “For Burt, Love, Max ’96”, making it a deeply personal piece of provenance directly from the artist’s hand.
Max’s art deeply reflects his social, spiritual, and aesthetic interests. Over the decades, he has evolved into a dedicated champion of numerous causes, ranging from environmentalism and the campaign for Tibet to the restoration of the Statue of Liberty.
