Description
Paul Staiger (born 1941 in Portland, Oregon) is an American Postwar and Contemporary artist best known for his contributions to the Photorealism movement. Emerging during the late 1960s and 1970s, his precision-driven paintings and prints capture contemporary urban landscapes, infrastructure, and classic automobiles with a sharp-focus aesthetic that mimics high-contrast photography.
Staiger achieved international recognition early in his career when his work was included in landmark institutional exhibitions, such as the Whitney Museum of American Art’s seminal 22 Realists show in 1970 and Documenta 5 in Kassel, Germany, in 1972. His works are held in notable public collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the San Jose Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
